How much should you charge for it this time OR how much money should you charge for a website?
My answer is: As Much As They Can 🙂
Investigating the clients & scope is the most critical
- What they’re looking to achieve with this?
- What they’re willing to invest?
- What is their actual budget for the project?
Once people realises someone can do something for them they want to know if its feasible for them within their budget.
The freelancer, vendor, company or the software developer very well understand that nobody these days especially have unlimited budget.
As service providers we all have to work within the clients budget or theres no basis for business.
Costs for the sites vary enormously.
We have all seen as visitors extremely simple sites and extremely expensive sites.
And the variance comes down to just one thing, only one thing:
How much time the freelancer, vendor, company or the software developer has put into service to bring the site together? Both the Programmed features & Design Time.
The biggest cost identification however the time it takes to build each of the features that goes into that site.
Features as in
- Is there a slide show on the home or a custom animation or a contact form.
- Do you want a Video shoot done and to be added?
- Wanna develop a Custom Typeface?
- Is eCommerce with products listed one of the features?
- Is there a tool behind the site that makes it easy to update the photo galleries or
- Do you need Advance tracking of products, visitors?
It’s a tool built that has a 3d car that you can change the colors and spin it around and has different variants, models and what not. It took ton of hours.
It’s a simple site that has 8 to 10 or 20 to 30 pages and you can see pictures and you can read text that’s going to be done in a few days or weeks.
Finally it is the amount of time spent on programming features.
So its best to have a conversation with somebody before giving them an idea of what they’re going to pay is the key here.
